The LGBTQIA2S community includes individuals who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or gender expansive, queer and/or questioning, intersex, asexual, and two-spirit. Systems and structures reinforced by harmful patriarchal and heteronormative ideologies are not only biased and discriminatory against members of this community but also perpetuate hate and violence. Interrupting and ending that begins with understanding the diversity and lived experiences of LGBTQIA2S individuals and reflecting on personal perspective and privilege related to sexuality and gender.

NCTE advocates to change policies and society to increase understanding and acceptance of transgender people. In the nation’s capital and throughout the country, NCTE works to replace disrespect, discrimination, and violence with empathy, opportunity, and justice.
